The waterfront and harbour in 1945. At this spot the Merlion fountain was installed and the area beyoind the pier is now being reclaimed and built on, the pier will be removed.
The picture below is a modern contrast. Taken 60 years on in 2005 it shows the development of the harbour area and the cranes in the background indicate the redevlopment still taking place with the reclamation of the surrounding land.
